A virtual stroll along the High Street
The Mayfly, 72 High Street, Lowestoft, Suffolk, NR32 1XN
We have created a unique way of displaying the 'old and now' images of the 180 properties that can be found on the historical North Lowestoft High Street, these photos depict different eras over time and show how the street and its businesses have physically, socially and culturally adapted to our changing lifestyles, tastes and needs over the last 120 years. Photos are positioned as accurately as possible using GPS data so as to record a continuous scene along both sides of the street as well as some of the Scores, and cutting-edge software has been used to alter perspective and angle while retaining spatial fidelity. Where available memories and other historical information have been added to bring the High Street to life.
Issues in the making of the 'Street Stroll' will be discussed as well as our future plans for taking this approach to documenting and archiving streets to other parts of Lowestoft and beyond. Come and find out how you and your street could get involved.
