Hear theatrical history and tales from the days of travelling players to current theatre practices via Georgian, Victorian, Repertory and Commercial Touring Theatre. We cover the rivalry between art and religion, the decline and fall of different styles of theatre and the struggle against fire, the blitz, town planners and rival forms of entertainment. Following the publication of “Stirring Up Sheffield” by Colin George & Ted George, this tour has been updated to include the struggles of opening the Crucible Theatre in 1971.

Led by: Chris Reece, former theatre manager of Sheffield Theatres.

This walk is in partnership with Sheffield Walking Festival.
