A History of Rail Travel Poster Art

Station Road, Stafford, Staffordshire, ST16 2AA

  • 11 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking required

Join us for an illustrated, engaging talk on the history of railway art poster advertising to explore social & technological development over 180 years. The talk will feature artwork from a glittering array of artists and poster designers.

From the earliest days of rail travel, poster advertising was used to encourage people to take the train. Through the artwork of, and captions on, such posters we can catch a glimpse of not just the advances in engineering and in design, but also the contemporary social concerns addressed in the advertising slogans. But if you are not so interested in the history there is much to admire in the work of a variety of artists and poster designers stretching over a 180 year period.

Join Michael Willmot for an illuminating illustrated talk on the history of social and technological development told through railway art. The talk will last approximately 90 minutes with time for questions.

Places are free but admission is by pre-booked ticket only as numbers are limited.

This talk is supported by North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership and Avanti West Coast.
