A guided tour through Berkhamsted Past travel routes.

We start this journey where the first toll road was positioned and discover what impact the canal and the railway had on the prosperity of the town. Also, you will discover how the end of Royal support led to impoverished times of the town.
You will learn how ancient and modern routes shaped Berkhamsted over the years, how these routes connected people and their products and the connections Berkhamsted had with other local towns through these routes. You will be able to view images of maps and see how the town developed as a result of transport links.
We will start at the Catholic Church in Park Street and walk down the High Street towards St Peter’s. Pointing out places of historic interest.

There are no parking facilities at the site and so participants should park in the town. There are no facilities available at the start of the walk. .
Stout walking shoes or boots should be worn. We will be walking back towards town and the High Street will be busy with pedestrians and shoppers.
