A Great Day Out in Clifford: Visit St Edward’s Catholic Church as Part of a Trio of Churches
49 High Street, Clifford, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS23 6HJ
The small village of Clifford, listed in the Doomsday Book, is outstanding for its spiritual heritage. This has resulted in the three churches of different Christian traditions in Clifford today. Together, they connect to share a fascinating history. Walk in the steps that generations have walked since Medieval times. Clifford’s story is told through the landmarks you will find when visiting.
The beautiful church tower of St Edward’s Catholic Church soars into the sky, celebrating the historical shift from political turmoil during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, through Victorian industrialisation and into Clifford’s vibrant community of today. Enjoy learning during your visit how the Romanesque style of St Edward’s compares with the Gothic Revival architecture of St Luke’s C of E Church and with the Victorian-style Wesleyan Chapel nestled between them. All three tell the stories of the people who built them separately then, but today come together as Christians who pray, debate and fundraise for local and global causes. Hear how each parish tells its story by recounting its history and by expressing it with music and art.
At St Edward's Church, there will be talks in the morning and afternoon (times TBC), as well as a series of music, from organ, instrumental, and singers throughout the day.
