3 Chapel Walk

Setting out from Corsham Primary School at 0930 for this 'easy' grade ramble, the Leader will take the group via paved footpaths to the Carriage Drive. From here a series of mainly level paths are taken, through to Westwells and onward through fields and paths to the Pilgrim's Chapel at Chapel Plaister, a distance of 3 miles. Here ramblers will have a half hour in which to read about its history and perhaps nibble at one of the snacks in their backpack! From there the very rural, single-track Wadswick Lane, with views to the Westbury White Horse, will be followed before taking to footpaths once more at Bakers Corner. On passing Neston Lodge, a bridleway leads past Park Lane Quarry then heads towards The Ridge and Monks Chapel, a distance of 3 miles. At Monks Chapel, once again, ramblers have half an hour to read, explore, enjoy the ambience and history of the second Chapel of the day. Setting off through fields to Broadstone there is a short pavement walk before heading into The Batters and thence up Pound Pill, entering the gates of the Lady Margaret Hungerford Almshouses, Master's House and Schoolroom. Having explored and heard its history from Trustee/volunteers, some welcome tea and cake will be offered - in the hope of raising some funds in view of the very recent, interior and exterior repairs to the Schoolroom!
