The Lost Wharves of Berkhamsted - A guided tour of yesterday's canal (2022)
The Bridge, Bank Mill Lane, Hertfordshire, HP4 2NB
Nothing much remains of the many wharves where grain, sheep dip, coal, timber and even boats were once unloaded and launched. Commentaries will identify the sites, explain the use and importance of each one and also point out the many features of the canal which on the stretch between Boxmoor and just beyond Tring required so many locks to overcome the height. Berkhamsted was an important registration point where boats and their cargoes were checked.
