BFI National Film & Television Archive (2022)
B F I National Archive, Kingshill Way, Hertfordshire, HP4 3TP
Following the success of previous years, the British Film Institute will open the doors to the John Paul Getty Jnr Conservation Centre for another year, providing rare access to the specialist skills, technology and stores which support the conservation of the BFI National Collection.
We'll be hosting technical demonstrations detailing video preservation plus providing mini-tours to one of the huge film vaults storing some of the Collection. There will be talks from our Curatorial team as well as collections exhibitions celebrating this year's theme of Astounding Inventions. For the first time, the BFI Reuben Library team will have a display showcasing some of the treasures from their library vaults.
Our friends from the Hospice of St Francis will be on site selling plants and refreshments so you can relax with tea and cake after your visit and help to support an essential local charity. We will also be welcoming back the Skulls & Robots pop-up art shop who sell handmade items at affordable prices and providing some activities for children.

The capacity for the building is capped at 110 people so if we are full then there may be a short wait to allow for some visitors to leave. Please note that following the sad news of Queen Elizabeth II passing away, we will still be going ahead with the Open Day.
Please note that the projection and curatorial demonstrations have very limited numbers so we are unable to guarantee entry to all visitors. Tickets can be obtained by seeing the relevant steward but they are released hourly on a first come, first serve basis for fairness. Your understanding and kindness towards our hard working volunteers is appreciated.
