Re'source Blackburn, Lancashire,

  • Available anytime
  • Pre-booking not required

Visit our Facebook page to discover artists, Gosha Gibek and Christopher Walster. They have spent lockdown creating new pictures of the iconic Exchange building remembered by many locals as the old flicks on King William St, Blackburn.

During Heritage Open Days we will share video sketchbook diaries and links to view the new finished works in the artists‘ online galleries. Gosha’s painting and Christopher’s drawing will be loved by those who recall the old Apollo cinema with Tiggi’s Italian restaurant underneath in the basement. Before being a cinema it was originally built as the Cotton Exchange in the height of the Industrial Revolution and once hosted a talk by Charles Dickens.

Reignite Church bought the building to rescue it from dereliction and decay and have set up a charity called Re:Store which aims to raise funds to transform the space into a multi-purpose community hub for arts, business, health and well being for everyone to enjoy.

Christopher Walster’s black and white illustrations of skylines and landmarks showcase his love of architecture. He lives in Manchester and sells his original work in markets around the region. He has showcased his prints at the National Festival of Making in 2018 when he first had the opportunity to visit the Exchange. He has been back to Blackburn to capture The Exchange in his distinctive pen and ink style.

Gosha Gibek has a studio and gallery in Clitheroe where she creates landscapes which are rich in colours and details, depicting towns and cities in England, Scotland and beyond. Her distinctive style uses inks, acrylic paints and gloss paint lines bringing vibrancy and movement to well known local landmarks.
