St. James the Great Church Daisy Hill (2020)
St. James Church, Greater Manchester,
NEW FOR THIS UNUSUAL ONLINE FESTIVAL YEAR
Explore and Discover by Jigsaw - we have transformed photographs of the church into collections of digital Jigsaws revealing outstanding features and small often overlooked details of St. James’. The jigsaws are flexible, the number of pieces used can be changed making them adaptable to suit different ages, abilities and screens sizes.
One album is devoted to the East Window by Morris & Co. and designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones in February 1898 it was one of his last designs before his sudden death in June1898. This window is described as “superb” by Nikolaus Pevsner, it has a density of detail that cannot be appreciated by the naked eye which adds a range of colour variation creating an overall richness. We usually recommend binocular viewing this year we offer view by jigsaw.
Safeguarding note - the puzzles are hosted in a Jigsaw Planet internet account it is advised adults exercise appropriate supervision of children under 13.
An Illustrated online booklet about The Reredos unpicks the symbolism and history of this large feature of the church, designed by James Austin in 1924 and it is reputed the painted panels are by Shrigley and Hunt of Lancaster.
An online Scallop Shell Quiz - about St. James the Great, offering multiple choice answers with a downloadable & printable answer sheet to record your choice plus you are be able to check your answers. We hope it will help visitors to learn more about our Patron Saint.
