Hide and Seek: A Victorian Gothic Revival Masterpiece (2020)

All Souls' Church, West Yorkshire,

  • Available anytime
  • Pre-booking not required

The Gothic architecture and exceptional stained glass in this stunning church displays hidden nature alongside paintings by Jane Austin, bringing nature indoors. Make new discoveries this year through virtual events and self guided walks.

Come and take a closer look to find our hidden nature by taking a walk around the church and surrounding village following the online clues, until we can open the doors to you once more.

This year we are offering you a glimpse inside the historic building and local history of the model village built by Colonel Akroyd, as part of our Halifax Heritage Trail through video.

Akroydon is one of the first model villages in England but almost unknown. The church and village were designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott which becomes obvious when looking at the memorial in the centre of the village. He considered All Souls to be his finest church and whilst working here he also made alterations to the Halifax Minster.

You can also see clips from our ongoing community project the ‘People of All Souls’ and our past events.

The fourth solo art exhibition ‘HIDE & SEEK’ by local artist Jane Austin is full of her love of local flora and fauna, alongside prints of our local heritage. The virtual exhibition will be available to view online as a video and digital gallery from 12th – 20th September, with commission from sales being donated to All Souls.

You may wish to continue your discovery in Copley, the second model village created by the Akroyd family and St Stephens Church, which is also owned by The Churches Conservation Trust
