Brighouse Heritage Town Walk (2020)
Thornton Square, Briggate, West Yorkshire, HD6 1EA
The heritage walk takes visitors along the Calder & Hebble canal towpath, viewing some of the early canalside buildings that shaped the future of Brighouse.
In the town centre a number of important Victorian and Edwardian buildings can be seen, including the Civic Hall, the old Town Hall, Park Chapel (now Wetherspoons) and Brighouse's oldest pub, the Black Bull. Along the way, we hope to be able to view a few additional surprises, some natural and some man-made.
The walk finishes at the picturesque Rydings Park, just outside the town centre. This is the location of the Smith Art Gallery & Library and the town's War Memorial.

Care must be taken when walking along the canal towpath, though it is not particularly narrow. The town centre is not pedestrianised, so visitors should be aware of local traffic.
Members of the Brighouse Civic Trust will be organising a stall at the start of the walk in Thornton Square. Leaflets about the work of the Trust will be available.
