Bolton’s Hidden Fossils

All Souls, Bolton was built by renowned Lancastrian architects Paley and Austin – 1881 for a congregation of mills workers.

Bolton at the time was a successful “fine cotton” spinning town. Set among a background of millworkers terraced streets the ghosts of these mills remain and are locked in the history of the building and it’s benefactors local mill owners the Greenhalgh brothers. Interpretation boards/videos and photographs collected by Halliwell Local History Society showcase the building and Bolton’s rich history on screens throughout The Nave – events hall.

The focus on hidden nature for Heritage Open Days this year offers an opportunity to open our doors and celebrate the fascinating fossils embedded in the beautiful Dent Marble chancel floor.

Throughout the day there will be a talk about this stunning marble and fossil art opportunities for those feeling creative. So come and fossil hunt with us!!

The All Souls team will be onsite throughout but please enjoy a self-led visit.
