Ode to Autumn was conceived on a walk in Winchester not far from the College. Dr Hands talk will explain heritage of John Keats writings and others, and will draw upon items in the College Archive not previously available for public viewing.

John Keats famously conceived his Ode to Autumn, one of the most celebrated of Romantic poems, 200 years ago, on a walk to St Cross. A less well-known succession of Winchester philosophers and poets deeply influenced Romanticism.

Dr Tim Hands, Headmaster of Winchester College, explains the heritage which made possible the writings of Keats, Coleridge, Wordsworth, Austen, and many others. The talk draws on items in the College Archive not previously available for public viewing, and no prior knowledge of Romanticism is necessary!
