This year marks 100 years since Parliament passed legislation allowing women to practise law in this country for the first time in its history. During these first 100 years, the legal world has seen women make waves and achieve the most influential of positions, from the President of the Supreme Court to Attorney General. In this talk, Dana Denis-Smith, founder of the First 100 Years project, will discuss the inspiring history of these pioneering women of law, as well as the challenges which still face future generations.
She will also share the groundbreaking work of the project, which is creating the first digital museum dedicated to the stories of extraordinary legal women who have broken barriers and paved the way. The project has spent five years using this rich and fascinating history to encourage discussion and help shape the future for women in law, and across different professions. This talk is equally essential for those fascinated with law and history as well as those interested in equality and feminism.
