Suffragette Dorking (2018)
Dorking Halls, Reigate Road, Surrey, RH4 1SG
The guided walks are in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Act of Universal Suffrage. The walks will visit the site of the HQ of the Leith Hill Women's Suffrage Society and the house that was the HQ of the militant suffragettes' Dorking and Holmwood Campaign of 1912. The walk will be led by costumed suffrage campaigners and will feature some modern-day 'suffragettes' chained to Dorking's railings. Listen to the story of local campaigners and learn about the role of important players in the campaign such as Emmeline and Fred Pethick-Lawrence with their close links to Pankhursts, and local non-militants like Bessie Rawlings, who was closely related to the non-militant leader, Millicent Fawcett.
