'A Painted Veil' a film about Edgar Wood (2018)
Huddersfield Art Gallery, Princess Alexandra Walk, West Yorkshire, HD1 2SU
'The Painted Veil' is a new film which traces the life and work of the Manchester architect Edgar Wood (1860-1935). Wood started his career in the 1890s as one of a group of innovative Arts and Crafts architects, drawing on traditional materials and motifs to create a distinctive new style. He designed many buildings that can still be seen, mainly in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire. They include the internationally-praised mansions of Briarcourt and Banney Royd in Huddersfield, and the iconic Lindley clock-tower. Wood was always ahead of his time, and later buildings foretold Modernism and Art Deco.
This beautiful film features many of his finest buildings, and includes interviews with architectural historians and the occupants of the buildings themselves.
