200Years of Bourne Town Hall: Our Past, Present and Future.
The Old Town Hall, North Street, Bourne, Lincolnshire, PE10 9EA
After several years The trustees of The Old Town Hall are in the final stages of applying for National Heritage Lottery Funding to restore and reconfigure the building to provide a community arts centre and heritage hub. Over the past 5years we have been staging "meanwhile events" which have included music, poetry, drama, film, craft and well being fairs and an extremely successful Comic Con. All of which were extremely well attended.
We want to showcase the journey of the Town Hall, since it was built in 1821 with the aid of various donations from local people. We will be doing this through old photographs, information points and leaflets. The courtroom will be set out as it was for its most recent use as a magistrates court. Some of our volunteers, besides trustees, will be on hand to welcome visitors and talk about the history of the building, what has been happening more recently and the future vision.
Architects plans have been submitted and will be on display alongside the visualisations of both the interior and exterior of the building.
Refreshments will be on sale in the Shambles area, which is where the old market was situated, and is where we hold our live events. You will be able to see where we have exposed some of the original stone and brick work, a taste of our future sympathetic redevelopment.
