West Bay Discovery Centre
Chapel On The Beach, West Bay, Bridport, Dorset, DT5 4EN
The Chapel on the Beach is a former Methodist Chapel, which is Grade II listed. It was constructed by a local shipbuilder and completed in 1849. After laying largely unused for several years, it was completely restored and adapted for use as a visitor centre in 2018. Its restoration included the sympathetic creation of a small mezzanine. This is normally office space and closed to the public but it will be accessible on the open day to enable high-level viewing of the interior and to enable views from the windows to be enjoyed. The Chapel is now West Bay Discovery Centre, a treasure trove of stories, information and activities covering local heritage and natural history. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Centre's exhibition "A Resort to Rival Others", which features the early, ambitious, development of West Bay as a seaside resort.
