The Church Foundation stone was laid on 25 January 1881 by Mr R. Theodore Ingham of Blake Hall. Amazingly, the whole building was completed in just ten months. The church was consecrated on 1 November. The congregation entered the church during a storm of sleet and rain and came out three hours later to several inches of snow. The stained glass windows are by the famous designer Mr. C. E. Kemp. The font donated by Mr and Mrs James of Ambleside is carved out of black marble and rests on two granite steps. The very special exhibition tower clock was built by Wm Potts, Clockmakers, Leeds. There will be an exhibition of St Paul’s throughout the years. Read about the choirboys who went on strike and made the National headlines, and the church outing when they hired a train to take hundreds of people to Edinburgh.
