St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church
St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Hampton on the Hill, Warwick, Warwickshire, CV35 8QR
The church was built at a time when Catholics were increasing in number, but were still excluded from Parliament and before the Hierarchy had been restored. As with most Catholic churches built in the first half of the nineteenth century, it was paid for by a local family (the Dormers) who lived at Grove Park in the village. The family remained actively involved in the parish until the 1990s.
The church fully complied with the restrictions imposed on communities when the 1791 legislation finally allowed the building of the first (legal) Catholic Churches since the 1688.
