Radford House Open Day

Radford House was built as a country house for the nobility and owned all the land to Elms Avenue and Guildford Lawn, which formed gardens with a fountain and summer house. As Ramsgate town grew, the lands were sold and at the end of the 19th century the building was given to the Ramsgate Corporation. It became the town's first official fire station, which remained in use, becoming the oldest fire station in England, until the fire brigade moved out in 2018. The building was then bought by Ramsgate Town Council to be renovated as a community asset, becoming a space to welcome and support Ramsgate's community. Currently renovations are planned and expected to begin early in 2025, and in the meantime, the building is open for events and room hires, as 'meanwhile' use. At our Open Days you will be able to see the building and hear about the plans for the future, contribute your ideas and discover some of its hidden history.
