Come and celebrate our 180th birthday year and visit our exquisite Pot Church’ building. Since 1844,
St Stephen and All Martyrs church has been serving the local community. It is now the only
remaining active church of it’s kind in the the UK, being constructed out of terracotta.
Join us for a commemorative weekend celebrating the key milestones that are interwoven
throughout the lives of local people over the last 180 years. With displays inside the church of
wedding dresses, christening robes, photographs and church records through the years. Fun filled
activities for all ages including;
Terracotta clay modelling
Scavenger hunt quiz
Church Mouse hunt
Refreshments
Learn the history of the church from the people who founded it, the dismantling of the bell tower by
Fred Dibnah in the 60s, to the major restoration programs beginning in the early 1990s. See samples
of the terracotta tracery, stained-glass windows depicting saints and martyrs and marvel at the
internal architecture from the hammerbeam roof, to the many inscriptions found on the walls.
