Old Shoreham Heritage - Routes, networks and connections in song
467-471 Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5WQ
The Old Shoreham Heritage Festival has been organised as part of this year's Heritage Open Days to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Old Shoreham Conservation Area and the 75th anniversary of the Grade 1 listing of St Nicolas Church, Adur's oldest building. Old Shoreham has been a crossroads since the earliest settlers landed here, working the land and carving routes to all points of the compass.
The Festival includes an art exhibition, walks, talks and workshops and local musicians will be enlivening events throughout the week. This relaxed evening will bring some of them together them together to celebrate the overall theme of this year's Heritage Open Days, performing songs and tunes about 'routes, networks and connections'.
The evening is 'curated' by Brett Widdows and the performers include:
- 'Liege and Leaf' with songs from the Sandy Denny era of Fairport Convention and Fotheringay
- 'Lissan' playing songs accompanied with Celtic harp and acoustic guitar
- Martin Byatt and members of Steely Fans
- Folk duo Phil and Jane
- The Valentinos with a mix of Americana and folk songs
Performances start at 8pm, but come early to enjoy the food and drink at the Amsterdam Inn, an early 18th century flint-built house with a Dutch-style Mansard roof. Grade 2 listed, it was converted to a restaurant and inn in the late 20th century and is a waypoint on the new Heritage Trail.
