Newport Heritage Festival - 'The Black Shed'

Water Lane Carpark, Water Lane, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7LD

  • 14 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Visit some of Newport Shropshire's incredible buildings - the Guildhall, Newport Chapel of Remembrance, St. Nicholas Church, the canal warehouse etc

On Saturday the 14th of September, Newport is opening as many doors as possible.
Some of our historic buildings will be open for the public to visit free of charge. These include the Tudor Guildhall, the Newport Cemetery Chapel of Remembrance and a walk of some of the most interesting graves in the cemetery, St. Nicholas Church (and hopefully the bell tower too), the Black Shed at the canal (Victorian warehouse) and others.

The black shed on the canal basin, was part of the once busy wharf and is the only remaining building and was built circa 1840. It is believed to be one of the last remaining wharf sheds in the country and has a lovely Victorian office with fireplace, which will be open to visitors.
The main body of the 'shed' will not be accessible, though visitors will be able to view the space through the wharf doors.
