The birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar gives an insight into this composers humble beginnings. The modern visitor centre contains many of Elgar's personal belongings and photographs. Outside there is a idyllic cottage garden, orchard and woodland.

The birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar is most definitely home to ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. Set in sight of his beloved Malvern Hills, this small family home in the village of Lower Broadheath is the perfect environment for nurturing a creative genius.

Our idyllic cottage garden has been planted in the classic cottage garden style, the garden offers a place to sit, reflect, and admire a vast array of seasonal flowers and plants, throughout the year. There is also an orchard and woodland to explore.

Pop into the award winning café run by Little Al's Kitchen who pride themselves on serving consistently great and fair-trade coffee, refreshing teas, and a selection of brunch favourites. Tuck into a wide selection, including hearty soups, slow-cooked ham sandwiches, and not to forget cracking sponge cakes.

The Firs is open to the public on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm (Last entry 4.30pm). Little Al's Kitchen is open on those days from 10am-4.30pm.

Directions:
By road From the north or south via the M5, exit at Junc 7 and follow A44 Worcester South. Follow A4440 around the south of Worcester then A44 towards Bromyard, turn off right after 0.4 mile. Follow the brown signs for Elgar Birthplace. From the west follow A44 towards Worcester and turn left into Crown East Lane at the brown signs for Elgar Birthplace. Accessibility details

Assistance dogs welcome throughout the property. Dogs are welcome on leads everywhere except inside the Birthplace Cottage. The visitor centre is fully accessible. The ground floor to Elgar's birthplace cottage is accessible but there are narrow stairs up to the first floor.

Additional information

There will be activities to take part in during our Heritage Open Days. For families there is a sound garden where you can have a go at playing some instruments and a woodland.
