389 Bristol Road South, Northfield, Birmingham, West Midlands, B31 2AB

  • 14 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

A walking trail takes visitors to ten sites in the beautiful Manor Farm Park, showing the changes from farmland in the16th Century, to the development of a country estate and ownership by the Cadbury Family, to the creation of a public park in 1955.

The 2 km walking Trail visits ten sites of historic interest in and around Manor Farm Park; each site has a QR code which, when scanned on a smartphone, allows visitors to access information about the site on a website. A printed guide and map will be available for self-guided tours but visitors can book one of two guided tours which will take place at 11am and 2pm.

The park was formerly part of an ancient deer park, then agricultural land and in the early 19th Century became a country estate attached to the Manor House. When George and Elizabeth Cadbury moved into the adjacent Manor House in 1895 they built a farm which included a large wooden barn to host parties for families from the City and Black County, sometimes with 700 people attending. The sites on the trail show visitors how the land was changed to meet the different requirements of its owners before being finally gifted to the City Council for use as a public park forever.
