Lowestoft Maritime Museum

Lowestoft Maritime Museum charts the town's maritime story through a formidable collection of displays featuring fleets of model boats, photographs and objects, atmospheric recreations of scenes from the past, and hands-on activities for all ages. There is a small cinema showing archived films, a wheelhouse, a recreation of Sir Christopher Cockerell's workshop, in which he invented the hovercraft, The Prunier Trophy, a vast art collection, trails for children, and much more. A special photographic exhibition will be available to view during Heritage Open Days. Every picture and object tells a story and museum volunteers are always ready to offer information and listen to visitors' reminiscences that add to their knowledge.

The museum is situated on one level, offers wheelchair accessibility, WC, and free parking is available alongside the museum on Whapload Road and a nearby car park. Our well-stocked shop offers souvenirs, gifts and books. Refreshments are available on the same site, within Sparrow's Nest Gardens. Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.

Directions:

The Museum is situated in the Sparrow's Nest Gardens through the park entrance near the lighthouse. Public transport: From the bus station take the X1 bus for Gt Yarmouth to the Sparrow's Nest/Belle Vue Park but be aware that it is a request bus stop soon after passing the lighthouse. Buses 101 and 1A can also be used. On foot: Approx 20 mins. Parking: Free at North Denes car park, or alongside the museum on Whapload Road.
