The Llanymynech Limeworks and surrounding area is steeped in history and lies across the English and Welsh borders, with minerals being mined in the area back to the Iron Age and Romano Britain. You will find the old stables block, now converted to an education area, two draw kilns, the Hoffmann kiln and 42m high chimney and a partially restored Tally House. The Hoffmann chimney is unique as it is the only one of its type still standing in the country. In the stables block you will find lots of information about the people and limestone as well as a model of how the site would have looked circa 1914 when it closed!
Situated around the site are information panels to help you interpret the area around you. Also, dotted around the site are metal sculptures to help visualise day to day activities.
Throughout the day our guides will take you around the area and even up into the quarries if you have the energy! There will be films showing in the stables block, entertainment around the site, as well as refreshments and shady areas to sit.
Our leaflets, with maps and some history of the area will be available free. Sited around the area, you will find information panels to help interpret what you see and inform you about the people, buildings and how it was used.
The methods used to turn limestone into quicklime will be explained, including the many uses of quicklime in our everyday lives.

- How To Find Us Driving (North) From the Direction of Welshpool Follow the A483 towards Oswestry and Llanymynech. When you enter the Llanymynech 20mph limit you will pass the Bradford Arms Hotel on your right and then pass Station Road on your right (B4398). Shortly after that you will cross the Montgomery Canal and the entrance to the main Car Park is immediately on your right. Driving (South) From the Direction of Wrexham and Oswestry From the A5 at the Mile End Roundabout outside Oswestry, take the A483 towards Welshpool. Continue on the A483 through Llynclys and Pant. When you enter the 20mph limit for Llanymynech the road bears left, the entrance to the car park is on your left just before the Montgomery Canal. This car park is not suitable for coaches, though it may be used as a drop off and pick up point. The site does not have its own post code, SY22 6EA is closest

Accessibility details
The Limeworks lower area can be accessed by wheelchair or buggy, with signs indicating the best routes. The English and Welsh quarries are not suitable for the disabled due to the nature of the terrain. Venturing into the English and Welsh quarries will require walking shoes/boots and the correct clothing for the weather. The walk takes in the English and Welsh inclines, which are steep in places. The quarries have very uneven paths, which are also steep in places. Please listen to our guide who will inform you of any dangers.
