Exhibitions and walks exploring the history of the Lickey Hills, including a tour of the quarry with has a surviving WW1 gun proof range.

A visit to the Lickeys with a difference. During Heritage Weekend you can join a guided heritage themed walk or see our exhibition in the heritage centre and there will be guides to show you the WW1 gun proof range in Warren Lane Quarry (normally not accessible). Displays on:
• Routes, Networks & Connections: Trackways to Roman road to saltway to turnpike; Canals and reservoirs; Trains and the Lickey Incline; First Tram to the Lickeys 100 Years Ago
• The history of the Lickey Hills Country Park - How the Country Park and Cofton Park came about and was managed.
Plus - Operations Overlord and Market Garden - local soldiers; a matron, a murder and a bomb plot; Elijah Walton’s watercolours of the area in the 1850s; the Tolkien Connection.
Activities: Bring us your memories of the Lickeys! Children’s activities.
In Warren Lane Quarry: Normally closed to visitors, the Quarry will have guides to show you the WW1 Bilberry Hill Gun Proof Range & the site’s geology.

Guided walks (wear suitable clothes and footwear – it can be muddy!):
The Country Park’s WW1 & WW2 sites on Saturday 14th at 11.30am
Lickey History Walk on Saturday 14th at 2pm
Lickey Geology: ‘A Walk Through Time’ on Sunday 15th at 11am
The Country Park’s WW1 & WW2 sites on Sunday 15th at 1.30pm

Please note: the Visitor Centre café is closed. Free car parking, including disabled car parking. Dogs (except guide dogs) not allowed in the Visitor Centre.

Accessibility details

Full wheelchair access to the Visitor Centre. Accessible toilet. Level Access to School Room and Quarry, not on the walks. The Quarry has slightly uneven ground and can be muddy. The walks are outdoors within the Country Park, so expect uneven ground, tree roots, mud and slopes.
