Seat of power and an historic setting for music dance and refreshments

A striking group of buildings. This complex comprises the Trinity Guildhall, the 1624 porch and Victorian council chamber. The Guildhall was built in 1423 after a fire had destroyed its predecessor. Behind it is a fine Assembly Room of 1767 with distinguished portraits, fine mirrors and the original chandeliers. The buildings have a handsome chequer-work front of flint and stone.

The Mayor is At Home. Teas and coffees in aid of the Mayor’s Charities.

11.30 am, 1 pm and 2.30 pm Chanter’s Jigge Songs, ayres, jiggs and jollies from around the world and across the centuries, played and sung with ancient, traditional and modern instruments (shawm, crumhorn, hurdy gurdy, rauschpfeife, mandola, recorder, whistle, ukulele, chalumeau, accordion, guitar, saxophone, keyboard, percussion and voice). Folk songs, Tudor dance music, Morris tunes, sea shanties and foot-tapping country dance medleys.
