Keynsham Abbey Open Day

Keynsham Abbey will be open to the public who will be able to explore the remains. There will be interpretation boards and volunteers on hand to answer questions. Guided talks will highlight the history of Keynsham Abbey and the Abbey site, including information about Heahmund, a warrior bishop, and Jasper Tudor, uncle to Henry VII, both of whom were buried at Keynsham Abbey.

For younger visitors there will be an age appropriate "Monks' Trail" they can follow to learn more about living in a medieval Abbey.

The Abbey remains are now laid out as gardens using plants which were available in medieval England. There will be information about the planting and the uses to which these plants were put by the Abbey's original occupants.

Directions:

Keynsham Abbey is located just inside Keynsham Memorial Park at the Railway Station entrance. When walking from Station Road turn into Abbey Park (a private road, the entrance to which is marked by two pillars) and walk to the end of it. This will bring you to the entrance to Keynsham Memorial Park and Keynsham Abbey is immediately on your right. Please note access is on foot only. There is no vehicular access via Abbey Park.

Accessibility details

The ground is uneven and can be slippery. There are occasional steps and trip hazards. There are no paths and the grass can be slippery. Public toilets are approximately 600m from the site and there is a charge for entry to them. Abbey Park is a private road and there is no vehicular access or parking for the public.
