  • 12 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Visit our John Greenway historic grade II listed chapel and the almshouse site which is tucked away behind. Refreshments will be served and visitors can have a look around and hear about the history of the buildings.

The Chapel , which is grade II listed was built by wealthy Tiverton Merchant, John Greenway, sometime between 1517 and 1520. Sadly, in 1732 the great fire of Tiverton started in a bakery opposite the Almshouses and destroyed much of which John Greenway had built. The chapel has since been restored and several original figures were saved from the fire.

There are 42 Almshouses tucked away in a tranquil setting behind the Chapel which provide housing for people over 60 who are in financial or housing need.
