Honeywood Museum
Honeywood Walk, Carshalton, Greater London, SM5 3NX
Honeywood stands in a distinctive location on the edge of Carshalton Ponds, an area rich in historic buildings. Originally a small structure of flint and chalk chequer work erected around 1690, it was modified and extended leaving a rich legacy of period detail. Major extensions in 1898 and 1902 turned it into a substantial upper middle class house including a magnificent purpose-built billiards room.
Exhibitions tell the fascinating history of the house and the people who lived there, and illustrate the history of the Borough of Sutton and the development of Carshalton. Current temporary exhibitions at this time include:
The Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders – “Celebrating 50 Years”
This exhibition traces the history of the centre and disabled horse riding, whilst also providing a chance for many people to relive memories and find out what the centre offers today.
Queen Mary’s Carshalton – Fifty Eventful Years (1909-59)
Discover the early history of the hospital, including how it survived closure in its 50th anniversary year.
Children's trails and crafts offered throughout opening. On Saturday 14 September at 10.30 and 11.30, local Historian John Phillips will give short introduction talks about the house. In the afternoon, staring at Honeywood, John will also lead short walking tours around Carshalton Ponds, for which booking is essential. The ground floor (including the Shop and the Tea Room) is fully wheelchair-accessible, though access to the floors above is restricted. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available. There is a blue badge parking bay in Honeywood Walk, adjacent to the Museum.
