Come and find out about the Baptists in Ramsey and find out the connections with Coventry. The site where the Baptists first built a chapel in the town will be open with some history displays.

About 260 years ago Samuel Fullilove came to Ramsey from Coventry with his family and this was the beginning or establishing a Baptist church in Ramsey. In 2023 members and congregations of Salem Baptist Church and Great Whyte Baptist Church have joined together to form Ramsey Baptist Church. After more than 160 years of there being two separate churches there is now one church which is still continuing to use both the Baptist chapel buildings in the town.

Great Whyte Baptist Chapel will be open for visitors to see the chapel building rebuilt in 1894. The Baptists met on this site from the 1760s. The building still retains many of the original features in the rebuilt chapel such as the pulpit, pews and balcony.

You will also be able to view a display showing an overview of the history of Great Whyte Baptist and Salem Baptist Churches and how they are now united together as Ramsey Baptist Church in 2023.

The small chapel garden and grave yard will also be open.

A historical quiz sheet will be available for all ages to learn more about the Baptists in Ramsey whilst looking around the chapel site.
