Gordon Russell Design Museum
Gordon Russell Design Museum, 15 Russell Square, High Street, Broadway, Worcestershire, WR12 7AP
The museum celebrates a design pioneer, whose work marked the transition from hand to machine production. Drawing on the rich Arts and Crafts heritage of the area, Gordon Russell applied the principles of craft furniture to mass production, with the aim of making good design affordable, and accessible to all. It was this ability to embrace new ideas that ensured the company remained at the forefront of British design, working with many of the leading national and international designers of the day, and a team of over 250 skilled craftsmen and women in the Cotswold village of Broadway.
Housed in a Grade II listed building which originally served as the workshop and drawing office for the company, the displays span Arts and Crafts cabinetmaking, the 1930s Modernist home, the wartime Utility Scheme, the Festival of Britain and beyond, while the shop brings the story up to the present day with the work of contemporary designer-makers.
Enjoy free entry on Saturday 14th September, between 10am and 3.30pm
