Garendon Park with Loughborough Heritage Open Weekend
The Obelisk, Garendon Park, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 4SE
Garendon Park has been opened to the public for the first time in centuries! The Park surrounding Garendon Hall was landscaped in the 1730s, including several follies, which survive. The Hall deteriorated and was demolished in 1964, with the rubble used in the foundations of the M1.
The restoration and opening of the Park and structures was a condition of planning permission for a substantial housing development; our focus will be the newly restored Obelisk. Access on foot or by cycle is from Booth Wood, Coe Avenue, Stonebow Washlands/Bridge in Loughborough, or from Butthole Lane in Shepshed. You will find it on town maps.
Self-guided tours are on www.garendon.freeuk.com and from stewards at the Obelisk who can tell you about the Park between 1000 and 1500 Saturday 14th and 1400 to 1500 on Sunday 15th, Details will be updated on the website where necessary.
