Brimstage Heritage Orchard Apple, Pear & Plum Day

The Orchard, Brimstage Hall, Brimstage Road, Wirral, Merseyside, CH63 6JA

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

A delightful orchard of olden-days fruits to visit see, pick and taste next to one of the oldest buildings in Wirral. It is open to visitors just a few days each year, but welcomes helpers and supporters for special events, workdays and courses.

A guided walk round a traditional orchard, pick/taste heritage varieties of apple, pear and plum. Visitors can bring their own apples to crush in a reconstructed 18th century cider press, make juice or cider to take away.
You can chat and swap advice about planting, tree care, bees, orchard crafts, whittling, basket making and orchard frivolities, from dances round the trees to quaffing fresh apple juice.

Brimstage Hall is probably the second oldest building in Wirral. It has a long history of domestic orchards on site and the current orchard was planned to recapture a past layout with heritage apples, pears, plums, cob-nuts, damsons and hedgerow fruits. We teach orchard skills to encourage other local and community orchards.
Pomona is a collective of enthusiasts: trees and orchards; orchard crafts; historic fruit varieties; conservation / countryside skills; planting; propagation; rewilding; hedges; foraging; beekeeping; drawing, painting and photographing trees; folklore; historical re-enactors; dancers; orchard music; plus cider making!
8th & 15th September, we give tours, tastes, talks to visitors & demonstrations throughout the day.
7th September, we have an additional preview opening while the Maize Maze & Brimstage Farm (the other side of our car park) have a fundraising event for Maggie's Fest, a cancer-care,-support & advice charity. Admission to the orchard is free and provides a tranquil space and additional interests/activities for Maggie's Fest supporters
