Brandwood End Cemetery-'Who Lies Beneath'
Brandwood End Cemetery, Woodthorpe Rd, Kings Heath, Birmingham, West Midlands, B14 6EH
Not many people visiting Brandwood End Cemetery know that there is a Civilian Garden of Remembrance and even less realise that this peaceful garden space holds the remains of 60+ locals residents killed by enemy bombing during WW2. The Friends arranged for the reinstatement of this garden area shortly after their formation in 2006 but it wasn't until Heritage Open in 2022 that we started to research those that were laid to rest beneath its green turf. 'Why was their no memorial carrying their names?' The Friends thought that was a very good question so we began the research and also, working with a local Stonemason, we commissioned a memorial stone naming those individuals that were identifiable. By the time this event takes place that memorial should have been unveiled so why not come along to share in our research and read the names, not known to many till this time.

The cemetery has uneven roadways and the Civilian Garden has a slabbed pathway but large areas are turf and get waterlogged in heavy rain as the area is clay. Wheelchairs and prams can access the path and the grass when it is dry but space is restricted. two bus services stop within easy walking distance No 50 and No.18
This event is in a small area of a 53 acre Grade 2 listed Cemetery also housing a pair of beautiful Victorian Terracotta chapel buildings(No longer in use) There will be self led walk maps to do around the site.
