Bournville Village Primary school (part of Bournville Heritage Open Day 2024)
Linden Road (entrance via Woodbrooke Road), Bournville, Birmingham, West Midlands, B30 1JY
The schools are now over 100 years old and reflect the Cadbury families desire for education for all. See the central hall decorated with frescoes depicting biblical scenes.
Built between 1902 & 1905 and designed by William Alexander Harvey, this Grade II listed school consists of red brick with stone dressings. Fringed by classrooms, you will be able to visit the central hall which is lit by dormer windows on the roof. The hall rises from lance curved braces and there are frescoes of 1914 by a mural painter and suffragist, Mary Sargant Florence and illustrator of “A Detached Observer,” Mary Creighton McDowall, depicting scenes from the Bible. The carving throughout is by artist and sculptor, Benjamin Creswick.
