Beeley houses and their occupants in the 1840's -1820s

Beeley Project : 1840s – 2020s
In the 1840s, The 6th Duke of Devonshire, who was the Lord of the Manor of Beeley, commissioned a survey of his property in the village. This survey took well in excess of 10 years to complete, and resulted in a map of the village showing the properties, along with plans and line drawing elevations of each individual building. In addition to this he had a book prepared with the name of each householder and details of them and their families.
In the early 1990s I came into possession of a battered copy of the map, and later, courtesy of the Peak Park Planners, a set of poor copies of the surveyed properties.
Over a period of what must be 10 years, I digitised and remastered the map, I redrew all the plans, and converted the simple line drawings into visual illustrations to compare with photo’s of the village properties in the 2020s..
Along with the help of the Duke’s book. and the 1841, & 1851 census records we found the names of the householders and their families in the 1840s/50s, and with help and research found old photos of some of the properties and their occupants.
