Autumn is the perfect time for a leisurely stroll around the inspiring home of the writer, Rudyard Kipling. Bateman's sits nestled in the peaceful landscape of the Sussex Weald. Enter this Jacobean house and see his original writing desk. Admire the Lily pond and Rose garden, designed by Kipling himself. Follow the meandering path along the River Dudwell, through the wildflower meadow to the 17th-century working watermill. The wider estate is waiting to be explored along footpaths through a tranquil valley, woodland and rolling hills; a landscape that inspired Kipling's writing.
Friday 13 September: Join a behind-the-scenes free tour of the Bateman’s Conservation Store at 1130 or 1430pm. First-come, first-served on the day, max 10 people per tour. Please go to Visitor Reception on arrival to book onto the tour, subject to availability. First-come, first-served. Tours last 40 minutes.
Saturday 14 September: Chat with the Bateman’s collections and house team and watch as they clean and maintain metal items in the collection. 1100-1600.
Free entry. Standard parking fees of £4 per car apply for non– members.
