Ten thousand years of history in one visit with interactive displays and childrens' activities plus a stunning textile exhibition

There is something for all the family at Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery. Dress up as a Border Reiver or an Edwardian schoolchild, crawl into a coalmine, be a Museum Detective or hunt for our historical mice. Discover local history through historical artefacts, photographs and interactive displays. Listen to stories about rural life. Our temporary exhibition, Lost Words by Fusion Textiles Artists will interest all ages.

In 1448 two Chaplains of the Chantry of the Blessed Mary lived here and taught grammar and singing. Very few of this type of medieval building have survived, and this is a rare opportunity to view inside the ruins of Alnwick’s first school.
