Aspects of Mossley

Mossley Heritage Centre, Emmaus, Queen Street, Mossley, Lancashire, OL5 9AH

  • Multiple dates available
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

The photos, displays and artefacts in our Heritage Centre will bring the history of our little mill town to life - from stagecoaches to trams and secret railway tunnels. A short walk will illustrate the importance of the canal.

Mossley is a small mill town whose history was built around the roads, canal, river and railways which created the environment in which the wool and cotton industries flourished.
A short walk will illustrate this looking at canal and other routes through the valley, meeting 13.30 at Two Mills Lane/Wagon Road.
Our Heritage Centre will display photos, artefacts, digital and literary evidence about Mossley and how it developed. From toll houses to WW2 Army telephones, from canal memorabilia to postcards describing Mossley's social life in the early 1900s we invite visitors to explore our fascinating history.
Children can illustrate a map of Mossley, design canal boat decorations, create their own postcards and join in craft activities.
