A Great Day Out in Clifford: Visit St Edward’s Catholic Church as Part of a Trio of Churches

49 High Street, Clifford, Wetherby, West Yorkshire, LS23 6HJ

  • 09 Sep 2024
  • In person
  • Pre-booking not required

Clifford, listed in the Doomsday Book, is outstanding for its spiritual heritage. Visit the three churches of different Christian traditions found in Clifford each offering an exciting program and join an historic walking tour of the village.

The beautiful church tower of St Edward’s Catholic Church soars into the sky, celebrating the historical shift from political turmoil during the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, through Victorian industrialisation. Today it shares the message of freedom and unity in faith with the other churches in and around Clifford’s vibrant community. St Edwards is a member of the local Christians Together group. It comes together to hold ecumenical services of worship and it fundraises for both local and global charities.

Enjoy learning during your visit how the Romanesque style of St Edward’s compares with the Gothic Revival architecture of St Luke’s C of E Church and with the Victorian-style Wesleyan Chapel nestled between them. Each parish tells its own story by recounting its history and by expressing its tradition of faith with music and art from experts and members of the community.

At St Edward's Church: 1000 organ recital, Adam Tomlinson; 1100 talk: " Stained Glass", Keith Barley MBE, Director Barley Studios ; 1200, organ recital, William Campbell; 1300 Children's Chorus, Holy Rosary and St Anne's Primary School, Chapeltown; 1400 classical guitar, Alex O' Neil; 1500 talk: "A Glimpse of Heaven: St Edwards Catholic Church", Robert Finnegan, Leeds Diocesan Archivist.
Times are approximate. Check St Edward's website closer to date of event.
