Organiser Information

These pages provide Heritage Open Days participants with nearly everything they need to get started: information on entry criteria and registration, newsletters, facts and figures all components of the registration pack, a marketing tool kit, comments from fellow organisers and our spring workshop programme.

And if you need some tips and ideas to make your local event a great success, have a look at our education and learning pages and download our Organiser’s Handbook.

All of the elements of the registration pack are available on our Registration Essentials page

Participation

Anybody can participate and register a property with Heritage Open Days, provided that they own or manage the property. If you are a Civic Society, Preservation Trust, Local Authority or other organisation and wish to open properties in your locality which you do not own or manage, please approach the owners of the respective properties and ask for their consent before registering the property with Heritage Open Days.

But Heritage Open Days is not just about opening buildings. You can also organise guided tours and all kinds of activities to bring local history and culture to life.

In addition, you have to fulfil the following entry criteria:

Entry Criteria

  • Properties included in Heritage Open Days should be of architectural, cultural, historic or social interest.
  • You need to provide information to help people understand your building’s history, architectural merit or role in the community. For example, you could offer guided tours, talks, information pamphlets or put on an exhibition.
  • All openings must take place on either Thursday 9, Friday 10, Saturday 11, or Sunday 12 September 2010. (Organisers can choose the days they wish to open properties or stage events. You do not need to participate on all four days. Please note that HODs does not include the Monday anymore.)
  • Admission to properties and participation in activities must be free during the chosen Heritage Open Days opening period. Properties that do normally open free of charge should either open an additional part of the property or arrange a special activity.
